September 3-7, 2008

 U.W. Hilton Garden Inn - Laramie,WY

Registration Form

This year’s fall field conference will be based in Laramie Wyoming and will focus on the geological assets of Southeast Wyoming.  Followed by a short course offered on Friday afternoon on Laramide-Style Folding and Associated Secondary Structures. The conference will offer three field trips—including structure, tectonics and oil and gas of Shirley and Hanna Basins, Como Bluff, the Casper Formation, the Overland Trail history, diamond kimberlites, and a variety of geologic subjects in the Medicine Bow Mountains.

Technical Sessions:
Keynote Speaker – Dag Nummedal – Cretaceous Depocenters

Geothermal and Hydrogeologic Interactions in Wyoming

Drainage System of the Powder River Basin

Diamonds and Jade in Wyoming

Pipeline Paleontology:  Opportunities for Exploration, Discovery and Education

Wyoming Energy Development

Plus more TBA. . .

Friday Afternoon Short-Course:
Laramide-Style Folding and Associated Secondary Structures
Chris Zahm, The University of Texas at Austin, Bureau of Economic Geology

This half-day seminar is intended to broadly introduce Laramide tectonics with the intent of improved understanding of the development of primary and secondary structural elements including folds, faults and fractures at the reservoir field scale.  These features are significant in subsurface reservoirs as they provide complexities often overlooked during reservoir production and may represent exploration or exploitation targets for hydrocarbons.
